Why do I have to calibrate my camera ? |
|
It is essential to calibrate your camera in order to obtain precise results. All cameras have lens errors. These errors are : lens distortion, 'principal point ' positioning error, variations in focal length...
Calibration allows the software to account for these physical lens errors. 'Pixdim' can then make automatic adjustments to correct these errors.
Calibration is totally automated with Pixdim. Pixdim is supplied with A4 and A3 format calibration grids.
To calibrate your camera, simply :
1. Print this grid 'A4 or A3 format depending on your printer) and then measure the overall distance of the printed grid. 2. Take a series of photos of this grid and copy them into a sub folder on your hard disk. 3. Then run the calibration procedure, select the folder where you stored the photos and input to Pixdim the real measurements that you made... That's it ! It's all automated !
Calibration is performed just once for each camera.
